Note for the week: If all else fails on your computer, power down, unplug the computer, push the power button for 3-5 seconds to discharge, open the box pop the motherboard battery out, place back in and plug in push start. This will do a BIOS flash and reset your BIOS which will reset the computer.

Please feel free to join my group, this is for Merced County folks only so if you are visiting the group will have all kinds of links and files as well as more information added.

I have also noticed some of you might be interested in some simple fixes that you can do to avoid taking it to a shop or to me for repair. Listed below might be helpful.

  1. When turning off during a crash make sure that you unplg the cord from the computer, then push and hold the power button in for 5 seconds. This will discharge the electrical componants and reload your computer drivers and componants back to reset them. So any crashes that occured with be reset back if the issue is not serious meaning a bad part or software problems.
  2. De-frag often some people will tell you do de-frag once in awhile, think of it a a filing cabinet. If the files are out of order they are not easy to find, when you de-frag often it keeps them in their proper places for faster indexing.
  3. Now if you forget your password, it happens, first never password a BIOS unless it is on a server at a work place or business or something that you use the computer for that is very important information that you do not want anyone to change anything in the BIOS properties. To reset this open the computer, make sure that your computer is powered off both software as well as the electrical plug to the power supply. Be sure to ground yourself before touching the inside of the computer. Just touch the case before touching any parts inside. Look for a battery it looks like a coin. Pop that out and then pop in again this will reset the BIOS. Put everything back together then restart you will notice that you do not need a password to access the BIOS. This is called flashing the BIOS.
  4. In some cases such as lap tops they use jumpers or batteries are soldered to the board. You can go to the Internet and find out your systems BIOS information and how to trip passwords. It is fairly complicated if you do not know what you are doing do not attempt any of this. Take it to a qualified serve person or warranty service before attempting any thing like the procedures listed.
  5. Take a basic computer class, read articles on shortcuts, fixes, take an old computer apart if you have one and see what the components look like. Put it back together and then take it apart again. Every machine in this world pretty much looks the same has the same idea.
  6. If you do not have the time to do this then expect to not have a longevity computer at the helm. You will experience slow machine function, lost files and loads of spy ware or ad ware on your machine once you discover this then you will begin to understand in today's computer world the importance of taking care of your computers.
  7. Go to the group section Click Here sign in free and have fun posting if you are outside of the Merced area share at least with the group.

Greetings friends we have come to the great speed factory, your computer is either choking out or is speeding right along. I assume you have considered the dust factor again.

Get that case outside and blow the dust bunnies out. Fire is not pretty in any home. It will take you about 5 minutes at the most to undo a couple of screws and blow it out with a can of air, cost about $3.00 compared to the loss of a building.

If you suffer from allergy's it may be a good idea to wear a dust mask. It takes about 2 cans of canned air to get the job totally done. If this is done regularly you will have a clean and cool computer. Also the sucking fan that sucks out the dust will be cleaner when it go out into your home.

Some of you may think that I tell you this stuff to much you will be glad that you did this trust me. I had an experience with my pet cat once when it sprayed on the electrical box on the back of my computer some years ago, I had to buy a new power supply unit that is all the damage there was. Could have shocked the cat to death.

I do not mean to scare you but I hope that it does, this is very real.
